Gleaning the Ethereal investigates music as a plastic object.

I am developing a series of recorded sound pieces displaying the context of the work in it’s content. They are derived from electro-acoustic improvised recordings combined with field recording, found sound, and record noise, collaged to create a record that is constructed/fabricated into a viable playable object reflecting its content.
Through my extensive research, both structured reading and experimentation through material failures and successes to develop a continuously evolving process to create objects, in this instance playable record.
The music in this portfolio is rooted in the proposition that sound/noise is a plastic art, and explores the embedded sound into a plastic material. The artist’s relationship to the primary material can be thought of in the same way as a painter’s to paint, or a sculptor’s to clay.
As a composer of what can be described as musique concrete, births the sound into becoming a plastic art. I purport sound as an object in and of itself. Given that sound can’t be touched, the way stone or bronze can; presupposes it as an intangible abstraction. Sound is ephemeral until it is manipulated through acts of processing. Where sound becomes haptic as well as ocular through the use of software, or physically through the use of magnetic recording tape.
The sound becomes a fixed medium capable of being shaped and sculpted, and then music morphs the plastic arts. “Gleaning the Ethereal”, is a composition that is shared over four custom hand cast plastic records. Each record contains a movement of the work, that be played in any order.
